Oh Scrap! : Hands2Help Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I was up quite late last night finishing up the binding, but I did it! I finished my Hands2Help Donation quilt just in time!

I think I started making these blocks back in December of last year. The initial vision for the quilt was to only use rainbow-colored prints. For months, the making of the blocks were few and far between. I just didn't come across much of the right fabrics. I soon found myself adding in striped fabrics.

Oh Scrap! : Hands2Help Progress from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

A lot of my interactions with scraps this week was sorting and putting them away.

I did get one lonely string block completed.

The real accomplishment is I finished up the 28 16-patch blocks I needed to finish my Hands2Help Challenge quilt for this year. I was really wanting to make all of the blocks from striped fabric, but I really don't have the time to search for them.

Help2Help Quilt Drive from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I am a little slow to the party but I am participating in the Hands2Help challenge going on over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict. I have participated every year for at least a decade.

I signed up months ago but have just recently been thinking about what project I am going to designate. Almost all of the quilts I work on lately would probably qualify but I wanted to choose a project that is made with fabric from my stash/scraps.

Hands2Help Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

It is Friday again and I have another finish to share with all of you.

Late last year, I needed to come up with some scrap quilt ideas to use up some of my low volume scraps. I decided to pull my Two Bits pattern and start a new RSC quilt. I would make the Churn dash variation in the RSC color and frame it in some low volume strips.

Hands2Help 2022 from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Every year in the spring, there is a fantastic event - it is called Hands2Help. Over the years, this event has prompted thousands of quilts to be donated to various organizations.

I think I have been participating since 2015.

More Scrappy Love from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I decided to donate one more quilt from the stack of finished quilts to Covered in Love.

Remember this RSC quilt I finished last year? Well it has been kicking around the house just waiting for a new home. As I was sending off a box to Covered In Love for the Hands2Help quilt challenge, I decided to stuff this one in as well.

HRT Quilt for Hands2Help from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Hurray! I was able to get my Half Rectangular Triangle (HRT) Quilt onto my quilt frame and get it finished this week.

I started making these blocks clear back in August on 2020 as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge project. For each color, I made about 14 blocks that measure about 4 x 8". I used the Creative Grids Perfect Rectangle Ruler to make them. No trimming required!

(Rulers are available at Fat Quarter Shop or Pineapple Fabrics)

You can also use half of the Tri-Rec ruler but you will need to make smaller blocks.

PSP20 and Hands2Help from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I can't remember who started the Postage Stamp Pandemic (PSP20) but I was quick to hop on board. Having finished a postage stamp quilt not too long ago, I decided to bump up the size of my cut squares to 2". The memory of sewing up all those smaller sizes was still very fresh in my mind!

Oh The Goodness! from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

There was a giant box of goodness that landed on my doorstep this afternoon...

Kat contacted me to see if I could help out again getting some Covered in Love blocks turned into some quilts. She remembered I got really bored making a bunch of the same quilts last time so in the box I found enough red, white and blue blocks to make three quilts.

Room in the Box from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I was packaging up the homespun quilt I finished for the Hands2Help challenge when I realized there was room in the box for another quilt.

So I decided to include this quilt I made back in 2017 from some Kaffe Fassett orphan blocks. It has been tucked away in a bin since I finished it and I am happy that it will finally have a home. You can go back and read the original blog post here.

A Quilty Hug from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I finally found some free time to spend in my sewing room this week.

It was just the therapy I needed!

I turned these old leftovers into blocks. There were some homespuns, brushed cottons and cut apart old shirts.

The blocks were simple enough to make. Just start with a square and insert some strips. Then it is just a matter of trimming the block to size. Mine measured 8".

I think I often give the impression that my fabric and my scraps are all organized and pretty. But I am sharing one of my little secrets today...

I have two giant drawers that I hide underneath my cutting table that are stuffed with plastic bags full of miscellaneous scraps that I don't quite know what to do with. Some are leftovers from a finished project. Some are themed scraps like holidays or Charlie Harper prints. And some are just colors I like together so I started collecting them all in one place.
